Species: GALENA Locality: Mine Falls Park, Nashua, NH Specimen Size: 6.5 cm specimen of galena in milky quartz. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: Notes: |
Species: GALENA Locality: Shelburne Lead Mine, Shelburne, NH Specimen Size: 7.5 cm, 1 lb. specimen of massive galena. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: Notes: Beige & white oxide coating (likely acquired from years of burial in the mine dump) disguises the species, but weight of specimen gives it away. The silvery interior is exposed in a few surficial chips. Cubic cleavage is also visible. |

Species: GALENA Locality: Ore Hill Mine, Warren, NH Specimen Size: Galena crystal is 3 mm on edge Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: u466 Notes: |
Species: GALENA Locality: Chandlers Mill Mine, Newport, NH Specimen Size: 1.7 mm zone of galena in quartz. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: u1338 Notes: Galena is uncommon in New Hampshire pegmatites. This occurrence of galena in the Chandlers Mill pegmatite was confirmed by EDS analysis. This specimen is the one that was sent for analysis. The Uranium is an interesting trace element. The vertical markers are all Pb peaks. The sulfur and lead lines are very close and merge in this plot. |

Species: GALENA Locality: Chandlers Mill Mine, Newport, NH Specimen Size: 2 mm zone of galena in quartz. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: u1330 Notes: Another Chandlers Mill galena specimen. Some cubic cleavage is evident in this specimen. Micro quartz crystals, siderite, and a micro augelite crystal are also present on this 3.2 cm specimen. |

Species: GALENA Locality: Palermo Mine, N. Groton, NH Specimen Size: 1.8 cm specimen, galena cleavages in quartz. Field Collected: Clieve Dodge (late 70's - early 80's). ex. John Anderson Catalog No.: u1390 Notes: Gift from John Anderson. Galena is rare at the Palermo Mine. |
Species: GALENA Locality: Palermo Mine, N. Groton, NH Specimen Size: 4.5 cm specimen with interior mass of galena Field Collected: From a crate of Palermo phosphate rocks gifted by Bob Whitmore Catalog No.: 2004 Notes: Some micro cerussite crystals appear to be present on the margins of this galena mass. Galena is listed for the Palermo Mine in Whitmore & Lawrence's book, The Pegmatite Mines Known as Palermo. |
Species: GALENA with SPHALERITE Locality: Pike Quarry, Hooksett, NH Specimen Size: 4 cm specimen. Embedded square galena crystal cleavage in sphalerite in white quartz Field Collected: Tom Mortimer - 2014 Catalog No.: Notes: The lusterous silvery galena did not reproduce in this photo. However the square outline of the galena crystal is evident. |
Species: GALENA Locality: Wise Mine, Westmoreland, NH Specimen Size: 4.5 cm specimen of embedded galena cleavages. Field Collected: Bob Whitmore Catalog No.: 2014 Notes: Purchased from Ted Johnson - Yankee Minerals. ex. Bob Whitmore. A voucher specimen for Galena at the Wise Mine. Possible tiny cerussite crystals present. |
Species: GALENA Locality: Charles Davis Mine, N. Groton, NH Specimen Size: 5 mm field of view Field Collected: Bob Wilken Catalog No.: A Bob Wilken collection specimen Notes: [bw] Most of what you see here is not cleavage because it comes from a tight vug. You can see the freshly broken cleavage portion on the upper left. The rest of the galena is oxidized and has some crusty cerussite on it. |
